Facebook users may soon see a new way to prove that their accounts are authentic, as Meta introduces Facebook Verified, a free verification badge designed to confirm that there is a real person behind a profile.
Unlike previous verification systems that were often associated with public figures, Facebook Verified is focused on helping users identify authentic accounts. The feature uses a selfie-based verification process, where users provide a short video selfie that Meta uses to confirm their identity.
The move comes as online platforms continue to deal with challenges involving fake accounts, impersonation, and AI-generated profiles. Through Facebook Verified, Meta aims to make interactions on the platform feel more trustworthy by giving users an additional way to recognize genuine profiles.
Facebook Verified vs. Meta Verified: What’s the difference?
While both features come with a verification badge, they serve different purposes.
Facebook Verified is a free feature focused on confirming that an account belongs to a real person. It does not require a subscription, and its main goal is authenticity and trust between users.
Meanwhile, Meta Verified is a paid subscription service available for Facebook and Instagram users. Aside from the verified badge, subscribers receive additional benefits such as account support and protection against impersonation.
In simple terms, Facebook Verified helps answer the question: “Is this a real person?” Meta Verified offers additional tools and benefits for users who want more support and account features.
When will Facebook Verified be available in the Philippines?
Meta has announced that Facebook Verified will roll out gradually, beginning in select markets before expanding further. The company has not yet announced a specific launch date for the Philippines.
For now, PH users can watch for announcements from Meta as the feature becomes available in more regions.
